I first posted about this tree on January 19, 2019. It is the second of my trees of this genus. The other is an American hackberry, Celtis occidentalis (see https://beginbonsai.net/2019/01/06/american-hackberry-celtis-occidentalis/ for posts about the American species).

The tree today.

The tree as a pre-bonsai when it first arrived from Wigert’s Nursery.

The tree when it was first posted on this website.
For a progression of the tree from 2011 to 2019 see

The tree last March fully leafed-out.

The tree looking bedraggled in August. Both of my Celtis spp. loose vigor at the height of summer but then come back in fall.

The tree with its second flush of fall growth.

Still vigorous nearly three weeks later.

Shutting down for a brief winter rest.

Christmas Day. I shortened the branch tips to 2 or 3 buds after taking his picture.

The tree is beginning to bud back out for a new season.

Time for a repot!

Nice roots.

Saw off the bottom third of the root mass.

Further root reduction.

Preparing the new pot.

Newly repotted.

The tree ten days ago.
